Honjin a unique type of an inn for governmental officials.
Honjin during Edo period was a type of an inn, for governmental officials only. In order to be classified as an Honjin, many requirements needed to be met, like: convenient location, service and utilities standards, but also safety. As those establishments were frequently visited by the highest ranks officials, like shoguns. Once the recognition was achieved, also the owners were granted various special rights.
